The Body ID Tag identifies the Model Year, Assembly Month & Week, Body Model & Series, Assembly Plant, and what Interior Trim Type, Interior Colors, Seating Type, and Exterior Paint Codes for how the vehicle was assembled at the Assembly Plant during the vehicle’s build. Some tags also had other installed Option Codes depending on the year, and which plant it was built at.
The Body ID Tag was used on most Elco’s up until about the mid-’84 model year, after which, this data was transferred to the “Service Parts Information Label” that was typically found in the Glove Box.
This metal tag is typically located on the Firewall, just inboard and below the Left Wiper Arm, or the Wiper Cowl area, and is likely painted over.
